Roy Jr. High is proud to recognize four students who have been selected as Top 20 finalists in Utah for the Do the Write Thing Challenge, a statewide writing competition focused on addressing youth violence.

Among the finalists is Andre Ramos, a student in Mrs. Georgiou’s English class, whose work stood out among submissions statewide. Mr. Flores' English students are also there to represent, Adele Noora, Harper Spencer and Malachi Murrah.

Earlier this school year, in December, 7th and 8th grade students were invited to participate in the competition by writing essays exploring the causes of youth violence, how it affects them personally, and what can be done to prevent it. The challenge encouraged students to reflect deeply on an important issue impacting communities across the country.

Out of hundreds of entries submitted by students throughout Utah, four Roy Jr. High students were selected among the top 20 finalists—an impressive accomplishment that highlights both their writing skills and their thoughtful perspectives.

As part of this honor, the selected students and their teachers have been invited to attend a recognition luncheon on May 1, where one student will be chosen as Utah’s Ambassador for Peace. The selected student will go on to represent the state in Washington, D.C. this July.

Roy Jr. High is incredibly proud of these students for using their voices to bring awareness to youth violence and for representing their school with insight, compassion, and leadership.
