Community Council Minutes

Nov. 16, 2022

Welcome- Rob Lake

Attendees- Deanne Chaston, Anndee Hoskins, Jennilee Hyde, Rob Lake, Suzanne Stirland, Susan Schreiner, Joshua Thayne, Annalynne Yamashita

Incentive Activity- Monday- Nov. 21, 2002. During 7th and RIZE. All students with a 3.0 GPA for 1st quarter of increased GPA by .50 from the previous quarter are eligible.

We have 578 total students eligible to participate. 80 of those were .50 increase. Total count of students at Roy Jr as of this Community Council meeting is 995.

Mr. Richins was in charge of the activity. There was a golden ticket given to eligible students. They had to present the ticket to get in. The activity consisted of many different games in the cafeteria.

End of term grades- Our counselors are doing an end of term credit remediation. They were able to gather missing work from the student's teachers and get them back on track for graduation. 11 students are completely back on track and 30 students completed at least one course. The students that didn't finish have one week to finish and get credit. Students many times don't realize how close they are to getting the credit they need. Credit remediation is free, credit recovery (Edgenuity) is $35 per course. Hats off to our INCREDIBLE counseling dept!!! AND the teachers at Roy Jr. that work so well with our students to help them with credit remediation.

2022-23 Trust Land Plan Update- 137,113.30 is the allotted amount for Roy Jr.

Review needs and on going support... on going- Chromebooks- $35,000.00, teacher buyouts, technology needs...( new, upgrades as well as repairs and maintenance.), professional development, mini grants, etc. See attached 2022-23 Trust Lands plan.

It was suggested and proposed to have the current Professional Development $3,000.00 raised to $10,000.00 for the 2023-24 Trust Lands plan. Solution Tree PD is PLC approved. It was also suggested and proposed to increase the money for teacher work days to $10,000.00 to cover the cost of substitutes while teachers collaborate within departments for the betterment of our

students.

Virtual Goggle update- Kevin Ropelato/Adviser is out of town... Admin will touch base with him about the virtual goggles upon his return.

Mini Grants- are a grant applied for by teachers- that is to be approved by the Community Council- all mini grants have to be used for and go along with Trust Land guidelines.

Joshua Thayne- is there some type of incentive that we can do to incentivize subs to come to Roy Jr. vs other schools? Currently subs that come to Roy Jr are offered a free school lunch. It was suggested possibly doing a small gift basket.

Rob Lake- proposed that we shift some of the professional development buy outs from Trust Lands to TSSA... suggested to have core class teachers meet 3 days instead of the regular 2 days that is currently happening. It was also suggested that we have 2 departments per day do their professional development. It is easier to find a sub for a full day vs a half day. Dept head will be asked to send an agenda - with a goal in mind of how to learn from each teacher in each dept. and to have data to back this up...they need to also have a plan for students that are failing to those that are passing... to Admin for approval before they schedule the PD day. PLC' are currently being held from 7:15-7:45a. The Community Council felt that it is beneficial to put Trust Land money toward PLC as they start to discuss the 2023-24 plan.

Boundary Committee - New schools 2024- The District is looking for volunteers to be on the 2024 school boundary committee... Volunteered- Kevin Ropelato, Rob Lake, Lindsay Marker, Suzanne Stirland, Deanne Chaston, Kayleen Harris and possibly Kim Crump. The first meeting is December 12, 2022 at 5:00p- Location Roy Junior High.

This committee needs to consist of families outside of the current RJH student walking boundaries. The new boundaries will only affect the bussed students.

Registration info- Anndee Hoskins- The counselors are organizing a fun night for 6th grade students to come and meet our elective teachers and their classes during the February Parent Teacher conferences.

Motion to close meeting- Suzanne Stirland, Second- Deanne Chaston

Next Community Council meeting will be-Dec. 14, 2022 @ 2:00p in the RJH library.

Contracted Services expenses in both goals need to be added to Salaries and Benefits. To do this, add all the applicable expenses in the Salaries and Benefits and in the Description identify all Action Plan steps included in Salary and Benefits. In the Final Report, the business administrator expenditures will be in Salaries and Benefits and the planned expenditures in this plan should align.
